Even though we've already trudged through Halloween and Thanksgiving, I'm finding it hard to believe that we're entering the thick of the Christmas season, but here we are. New York City completes its twinkling transformation tomorrow night when the switch is thrown on the Rockefeller Tree. I love the look and feel of NYC during Christmas, and my favorite part of living here this time of year are the spectacular window displays. Each year I walk with a group of friends in a winding path from Macy's all the way up to Barneys to view all of the major windows.
A few nights ago I skipped past the other displays and went straight to the Barneys windows - I couldn't resist given the theme: Have A Foodie Holiday! While I wasn't as blown away with the scenes as I was with their Cher windows from way back in 2002, it was fun to see caricatures of culinary stars past and present.
I love the detail in Mario Batali's head.
For me, the most successful window was the one featuring a giant boiling pot of "revolutionary stew," which had culinary legends such as James Beard, Jamie Oliver and Julia Child simmering away inside of it.
